The short version: DebtDrop helps you pay off debt. We collect only what we need to make the app work. We never sell your data. We never show you ads. Your financial information stays private.
1. Who We Are
DebtDrop ("we," "us," or "our") is a personal finance application developed by Jacob Grossman. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with transparency and care.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at jjgrossman7@gmail.com.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
- Account information: When you create an account, we collect your first name, email address, and a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
- Loan and debt information: The loan balances, interest rates, minimum payments, and due dates you enter to build your payoff plan.
- Payment preferences: Your payoff method selection (Avalanche or Snowball), extra monthly payment amounts, and paycheck allocation settings.
Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version — used to ensure compatibility and fix bugs.
- Usage data: Anonymous, aggregated data about how features are used — for example, which screens are visited most. This data cannot be tied to you individually.
- Crash reports: If the app crashes, we may receive a technical report to help us identify and fix the issue. These reports do not contain your financial data.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your bank account numbers, Social Security number, or any government-issued ID.
- We do not access your bank accounts, credit cards, or financial institutions.
- We do not collect your precise location.
- We do not read your contacts, messages, or photos.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve DebtDrop:
- To operate the app: Your loan data is used to calculate your personalized payoff plan, charts, and monthly playbook.
- To sync across devices: If you create an account, your data is stored securely so you can access your plan on multiple devices.
- To send payment reminders: If you enable notifications, we use your loan due dates to send local reminders. These are processed entirely on your device.
- To process payments: If you subscribe to DebtDrop Premium, your purchase is handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment details — Apple processes all transactions.
- To improve the app: Anonymous, aggregated usage data helps us understand which features are useful and which need work.
- To communicate with you: If you contact us for support, we use your email to respond.
We will never: sell your personal information to third parties, use your data for targeted advertising, share your financial information with anyone without your explicit consent, or use your data for any purpose other than operating and improving DebtDrop.
4. How We Store and Protect Your Data
We take the security of your data seriously:
- Encryption in transit: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS).
- Encryption at rest: Your data is stored in Google Firebase, which encrypts data at rest using AES-256.
- Authentication: Your account is protected by a secure password. We support Firebase Authentication, which uses industry-standard security practices.
- Local storage: Loan data is also stored locally on your device using encrypted storage, so the app works even without an internet connection.
- Access controls: Only you can access your data. We implement Firebase Security Rules that prevent any user from reading or writing another user's data.
No system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at jjgrossman7@gmail.com.
5. Third-Party Services
DebtDrop uses a small number of trusted third-party services to operate. Each service has its own privacy policy:
We do not use advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics platforms that track users across apps.
6. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the app.
- If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information and loan data from our servers within 30 days.
- Some data may be retained in encrypted backups for up to 90 days before being permanently purged.
- Anonymous, aggregated usage data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You have full control over your data:
- Access: You can view all your data directly in the app at any time.
- Correction: You can edit your loan information and account details directly in the app.
- Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data by contacting us at jjgrossman7@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
- Notifications: You can enable or disable payment reminders at any time in Settings → Notifications.
- Export: You can export your full payoff schedule as a PDF directly from the Progress tab.
- Portability: Contact us if you need your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
8. Children's Privacy
DebtDrop is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at jjgrossman7@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- The right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell.
- The right to delete your personal information.
- The right to opt out of the sale of your personal information.

DebtDrop is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the app from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
By using DebtDrop, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and its processing there in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of DebtDrop after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
We will always maintain a history of previous versions of this policy, available upon request.
